In treatment of Chambers and others, athletics takes easy way out

Whenever any problem arises, those charged with its resolution must been seen to be doing something.

If they do not or seen to be dragging their feet, they risk being viewed as part of the problem, with fingers pointed at them as well.

In the case of drugs in sport, the problem is a very difficult and multi-faceted one indeed.  Modern designer drugs, many undetectable, are created every year.  The chemists and dopers are many stages ahead of those charged with developing the tests that detect drug use, akin to a car chase where the police are miles behind, not knowing if the thief has gone east, west, north or south at any given intersection.

But the chase goes on, in many cases to no avail.  Those gaming the system, with more than adequate resources, know this all too well.
