Our outdoor track season begins officially on the first Monday of February. Since we're in California, we don't have an indoor season; but our runners have worked out over the winter in a loosely supervised running program (see Winter Training, AT&F Vol. 10, No. 8, page 16). As the coach, I won't spend any time supervising our kids' workouts during the winter, but I do keep track of their winter running. Most high school runners need a rest from their coach, and they shouldn't be in a rigid structure during the off-season. Watch their mileage over the winter, and make sure they've had a good rest between cross-country and track seasons. When your runners show up for the first day of practice on the track, you want them to be fresh, injury free, and hungry for the upcoming season. Read the full article at: www.atf-athlete.com
